Sanded but not coated oak hardwood floors with water damage
If you live in Minneapolis and have been in a few homes in the neighborhood, then this picture will probably look familiar. These are oak hardwood floors in a South Minneapolis duplex. They had some bad water damage. You can see the gapping between each board. Notice in the upper right corner a long the wall the gapping is wider then towards the left end of the picture. Also, notice the black spots in the floors along the wall. When you start seeing gapping and black spots, or grayish discoloration, then usually the cause is water damage. The black spots are nails in the wood that have rusted out and stained the wood. And the gapping is from the wood getting wet, expanding and disfiguring as it dried. The floors will expand and contract naturally from the change in moisture in the air and it is not uncommon to see gapping even without water damage. Depending on how long the water was on the floor and amount of finish protecting the wood we can usually reduce the visibility of the damage. However, the stains from the nails can be difficult because usually the nail rusted all the way through the wood. The floors is about 3/4 inch and we only sand off about 1/16-1/8 of a inch. So most likely you will still have some staining. If you got any questions about your Richfield floor sanding needs give us a call! Thanks.
