Refinished Oak Floors in Richfield MN

Red oak is the most common hardwood found in Richfield MN homes.  It is a hardwood that is very durable and looks beautiful in 1950s ramblers.  As you can see in this picture the floors are in the process of getting sanded.  I like to use a 220 volt drum sander. It is very powerful, cuts the floor clean and is  more efficient then smaller engine models.  An average job takes about 2-3 days to complete.  I think this floor was about 800 square feet.  We were installing a kitchen floor also in this house so it took a little bit longer.  I think we completed the whole job in 3 days.  A job this size will produce about 45-50 pounds of dust.  My machines and vacuums will collect most of that dust.  There will probably be about 6-8 ounces of dust that will dissipate.  However, if you keep all the windows open, then a a lot of that dust will go out the windows.  We clean up after we are done sanding, but you will probably still have some dusting to do.  As you can see in the picture below these oak hardwood floors in Richfield MN cleaned up pretty well.

  1. That looks nice. Did you use stain? What did you use as a topcoat?

  2. Thank you. Yes we do use stain, but on the floors in the picture we use used a natural oil base satin finish. Most people prefer the look of oil base because it gives the floor a bit bit more color then water base finishes. But we can do either one!! Thanks for the comment!
