We did this hardwood floor last week in St Paul MN. The back bedroom had a lot of adhesive from carpet padding stuck to it. Usually we need the adhesive removed before we try to sand it off. A lot of times if you try to sand it off with the adhesive on the flooring it can clog up your machine and get caught in your wheel bearings. Then you’ll have bigger problems to solve. But this adhesive was pretty flaky and I knew it would come up pretty well. Plus the oil base finish underneath wasn’t that gumming. So I gave it a shot. As you can see the floor turned out great. It looks absolutely amazing now. It went from worst to first! This is white oak, which is rare around these parts. But once every ten jobs we usually run into one. If you have carpet in your house and think you have hardwood floors underneath it then rip up the carpet, padding, remove the tack board along the perimeter, and pull all the staples and nails. If there is any padding still stuck to the floor take a hand scraper and scrap it up. Then give us a call and we can take care of the refinish.
