Oil Base Finish Oak Floors Milwaukee

These are oak hardwood floors with a wet coat of oil base polyurethane on them.  You can see the five gallon pale in the picture.  I like using oil base finish because it is easy to put down, gives the floor a nice amber look, and protections the wood well.  Each coat typically takes 12-16 hours to dry.  Most finishes will claim they dry faster, but from my experience, they take a lot longer to dry.  It is better to just wait it out then to try to rush coating or buffing the floor because the finish is fully cured.  If you try to buff out the finish before the finish is dry the poly will get sticky and gum up your sanding paper.  Also, you want the temperature in the room to be around 65-70 degrees.  Any warmer and you got have issues with the final sheen of the finish.  If it is really hot then you want to put the AC on..  Make sure you turn it on at least a few minutes before you put the coat down.  Otherwise dust from the vents might get in the finish when the fan turns on.  We do hardwood floor refinishing in Milwaukee so give us a call today!
